The tatry Mountains form the highest mountain range between the Alps and the Caucasus as well as between the Balkan Peninsula and Scandinavia, and provides an important crossroads for both north-south and east-west migration routes of arctic and alpine biota. A comprehensive account of the distribution and Habitat ecology of 1119 species of lichens and 60 species of liechenicolous fungi recorded from Západné Tatry Mountains, the Vysoké Tatry Mountains and the Belianske Tatry Mountains is presented.
